Having been born and raised on the gulf coast of Florida, as most of the Island Mind™ staff, friends, and family, we are boaters, fishermen, divers, surfers, pilots, captains, sons of sailors, adventurers, parrot-heads, and  “x”-runners... and have spent our lives enjoying the beautiful beaches, water, and natural beauty of the tropical zone called Island Mind™.
 
 
Island Mind™ was discovered on April Fool’s Weekend in 1995, during the erection party for Pejuan Mansion – a beautiful little private fishing retreat built on the south tip of Cayo Costa Island. For five days a group of volunteers, friends, family - about 30 men- descended on that island off Southwest Florida to build a habitat for humanity house…..and we were the humanity! There were carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, and more all with one goal in mind-----to complete a house in only five days (keep in mind this is way before Extreme Makeover).
 
 
At the end of the weekend, the house was completed. The crew was tired, sun-burnt, bruised, and all had an odd look of peace, satisfaction and contentment on their faces……no it wasn’t the adult beverages (although I’m sure that was part of it)……we all had Island Mind™!

Since then, we have all been back to Pejuan Mansion many times to enjoy that little piece of paradise. At the time, this was a revolutionary idea and an extraordinary event (everything had to be brought to the island by boat only). For everyone there that weekend, it was a life-changing moment and remains so to this day.
 
 
Island Mind™ is a way of life….a state of mind….   Maybe  it’s that special place you vacation every year,  your favorite fishing spot, or your  lake or beach house.  Maybe it’s that sand bar that everyone parties at on Memorial Day weekend.  How about where you spent your honeymoon or even your own backyard…..where ever your happy place is….that’s your Island Mind coordinates. “X” marks your spot.
